If you have a cottonwood tree in your neighborhood, then you have probably seen it floating around. Cottonwood is not your air conditioners friend. An air conditioning system consists of two major components. The indoor evaporator and outdoor condenser. The evaporator will capture the heat and humidity from inside your home. The outdoor condenser will grab that heat from the evaporator and release it to the outside. Obviously this is a very simplified explanation. I will not bore you and talk about Freon. A clogged outdoor condenser with cottonwood will not be able to release that heat. As a result, your air conditioner will work harder and use more electricity, take longer to cool down your home or not cool at all.
So the good news is that these cottonwood trees stop producing those cotton seeds by the end of June. ** If you have cottonwood, the perfect time to clean your condenser or have an air conditioning company do it is early July.
